Police rescued three cross-country skiers and a dog after they became lost Saturday night in the Eagle Ridge area.

OPP Emergency Response officers found the skiers early Sunday morning between Nipigon and Red Rock after the skiers had been lost in the dark and cold weather conditions the night before.

The skiers were taken to Nipigon hospital. No serious injuries have been reported.
Don Ready, father of one of the skiers who went missing, says he is sending the rescue team a heartfelt thank you for their efforts in finding the skiers.

“The deep snow and rugged terrain required officers to abandon their snowmobiles and travel several kilometres on foot,” Ready states in an email sent to local media. “Two of the party suffered freezing injury to their feet. The situation would have been much worse by morning with the -25 C temperature.

“I have always loved the Thunder Bay area, and now I have another reason to continue doing so.”
