Police nab suspected drunk pulp-truck driver on Hwy. 61

A report of a pulp truck being driven erratically on Highway 11/17 led to alcohol-related charges beind laid against a 53-year-old man. Ontario Provincial Police said they responded to the call at about 9:24 a.m.

A report of a pulp truck being driven erratically on Highway 11/17 led to alcohol-related charges beind laid against a 53-year-old man.

Ontario Provincial Police said they responded to the call at about 9:24 a.m. on Monday, after being told the driver was swerving and nearly caused several collisions as he continued south on Highway 61.

The driver was stopped near Resolute Forest Products, and police immediately detected the odor of alcohol.

The suspect was arrested and transported to the OPP’s Thunder Bay detachment for further investigation, where the Oliver Paiponge man subsequently refused to provide a breath sample. 

The 53-year-old man was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and with driving a motor vehicle with alcohol readily available.

He’s expected to appear in court on May 5 to answer to the charges.
