Police name plane-crash victims

OPP have named the three victims of Tuesday’s fatal plane crash near Pickle Lake.

Fifty-seven-year-old pilot Michel Nadeau and passengers Bernard Mailloux, 54 and Yanick Fournier, 27, where killed when their privately owned Lake 250 aircraft when down before a scheduled refueling stop in the remote Northern Ontario community.

A third passenger survived and remains in hospital in Winnipeg in stable condition.


Police say the plane was located after an emergency beacon was detected by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, who directed local police to the crash site.

OPP and Nishnawbe Aski Nation police were assisted by search and rescue technicians flown in on a C-130 Hercules transport originating out of Trenton, Ont.

The Transportation Safety Board has taken over the investigation, assisted by the OPP with evidence retrieval.
The OPP forensic identification unit is helping the regional coroner. Post-mortem investigations will be conducted in Kenora.
