THUNDER BAY -- The city’s police force has renewed the $50,000 reward for details about an unsolved murder.
In September 2014, 32-year-old William Wapoose was found dead off the bike path in Chapples Park. The police ruled the death suspicious after arriving on scene, later confirming that the case was officially a homicide.
It’s the only remaining murder case out of 11 homicides left from 2014 without an arrest or charges.
“We feel that this case is very solvable,” said Police Chief J.P. Levesque. “We know that the family is seeking justice in this, and we think we are going to be able to provide that we just need that missing piece of information that will get us back on track.”
Det. Shawn Harrison believes there are people in the community that have information.
“We are optimistic,” Harrison said.
“We believe that this is possibly an incentive, it doesn’t necessarily mean that these people are going to come forward for this but it brings it out there to all the people one way or another.”
He added that information has come and gone over the past two years, but the investigation has always remained active.
“There’s always stuff that’s coming forward,” he said. “We follow up on, a lot of times we have names and we can’t locate the people so maybe this was something that will bring people forward.”
Harrison added that he wouldn’t be working as hard at getting this information out if he didn’t think it was a solvable case.
