THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Police Service took to its Facebook page Tuesday to illustrate exactly what a distracted driving ticket looks like in terms of goods and service.
Under the title “The Price is WRONG,” the police force’s Facebook administrator published a short notice about the soon-to-be increased $490 maximum fines for distracted driving infractions in Ontario.
The post featured four photographs: Taylor Swift; a Montreal Canadiens hockey game; a minor hockey registration form and $490 in Canadian cash spread out.
“This would be stage side seats that you could have used the $490 CA for,” the post reads. “Travel and accommodation not included. It would have been a good show, and you would have been close enough to touch her - if the bouncers let you.”
Similar captions accompanied the following photographs.
The post has hit a nerve with some Facebook users, while others have applauded the police efforts in illustrating the cost of distracted driving.
The $490 maximum fines and three demerit points will be the potential penalties for breaking Ontario’s distracted driving laws as of Sept. 1.
