City police say they have received a number of reports about thefts from vehicles.
Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say in most cases the targeted vehicles were left unlocked, which gave the thieves easy access to the contents within.
Police say wallets and purses are the most commonly stolen items. Other personal items, including cell phones and laptops, are also attractive to potential thieves.
Police are now reminding citizens of the importance of locking their vehicles, homes, garages, bicycles and lockers at all times.
Police say the above mentioned places and items are key targets for thieves. Police also say citizens should keep the following points in mind:
- Always lock your vehicle and do not leave personal items visible
- Always lock you residence and garage
- Ensure windows are secured at night or when you are not home
- Ensure your front door and vehicles are locked if you are out in your back yard enjoying the weather
- Do not leave bicycles lying in the front yard - make sure they are in a shed or are locked when not being used
