THUNDER BAY – City police have deemed their annual Festive Ride program a success.

In a release issued on Friday, police say the five-week impaired driving reduction program resulted in the arrest of 15 individuals for driving under the influence.

That’s down from 19 a year ago.

Another nine drivers received warning, resulting in three-day licence suspensions, including one young driver who earned a seven-day suspension for his second such offence in two years.

An additional four people were arrested on warrants or for other criminal offences, and nine more suspended drivers were removed from city roadways.

“The police would like to thank those this holiday season that chose alternative means of transportation when celebrating. Due to the responsible actions of the majority, the police are also pleased to report that there were no fatal collisions in the city during the Festive RIDE season,” said Const. Mark Cattani in a statement included in the release.
