The following is a release issued by the Thunder Bay Police Service.

THUNDER BAY -- Most people were caught somewhat by surprise by the rush-hour snow this morning, We were having such a nice break from winter this week too!

We'd like to thank all of those people who were tuning up their lawnmowers or were riding their motorcycles last weekend for tempting this prank.

Between 9 a.m and 10 a.m 16 drivers were totally confused and ended up crashing their vehicles either into the ditch or another vehicle. Nobody has been hurt -- yet.

Winter driving conditions can be challenging.

Police are reminding all drivers to set their minds back 13 days to our last snowfall. Slower speeds, closer attention but greater following distances and - most importantly, put the phone down and pay more attention to the driving is today's mesage.

The Weather Network promises it will all be done by noon and there will be more sunshine by 1 p.m. All drivers will have about two centimetres of snow to clean off their vehicles before making the trip home. We hope you didn't retire that brush to the garage yet.
