Police seize drugs, $123K in cash in raid

Fentanyl pills were disguised to look like oxycodone, police say after raid at Shuniah residence.

SHUNIAH, Ont. – A raid at a Shuniah residence has led to the seizure of $123,000 in cash, $14,000 worth of cocaine and $63,000 worth of fentanyl pills.

Thunder Bay Police, in a release issued on Thursday, said the investigation initially began in Thunder Bay and led them on Wednesday to Shuniah.

Police added the pills have been designed to look like oxycodone pills in order to maximize their value.

“Unfortunately with fentanyl it is really a game of Russian roulette in regards to overdosing and dying for anyone who comes into contact with it, whether it be the user, first responders or an innocent bystander,” said Staff-Sgt. Ryan Gibson in the release.

Shuniah resident Trevor Beriault, 26, faces a number of drug and breach of court order charges. He’s been remanded into custody.
