Police seize large quantity of drugs, weapons from north side residence

Two men are in custody and facing numerous charges following the seizure of drugs and handguns from a Ruttan Street home.

THUNDER BAY - Two men are facing numerous charges after a large amount of drugs and firearms were seized by police from a north side residence.

Thunder Bay Police said in a media release issued on Monday that officers responded to a call on the 100 block of Ruttan Street just before noon last Friday.

Officers observed a handgun and what appeared to be drugs inside the house. Two men were arrested and police secured a search warrant for the residence.

The warrant was executed Friday evening and police seized a large quantity of oxycodone pills, hydromorph pills, marihuana, and cocaine, as well as a large sum of Canadian currency, handguns, and ammunition.

Police have charged a 26-year-old, Kalid Yousef of Edmonton, Alta. and 25-year-old Myles Puentes-Reed of Hamilton, Ont. with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of careless storage of a firearm, four counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Both men made a court appearance this weekend and have been remanded into custody.
