Police seize loaded handgun, drugs during Cumberland Street raid

Two suspects were arrested and are behind bars after police executed a search warrant on Thursday.

THUNDER BAY — A pair of suspects have been arrested and charged after police seized a loaded handgun and suspected cocaine and fentanyl.

According to a release issued on Friday by Thunder Bay Police, officers raided a Cumberland Street North address on Thursday, May 1, after obtaining a warrant following an investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity.

In addition to the weapon and drugs, police also seized a quantity of cash.

A 40-year-old male is charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking, cocaine and fentanyl and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

A 40-year-old woman is charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking, cocaine and fentanyl, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Both accused appeared in court on Friday and were remanded into custody ahead of a future appearance date.
