THUNDER BAY -- A 58-year-old suspect was arrested within 10 minutes after allegedly assaulting and threatening a man in an attempt to steal money and a phone.

Thunder Bay police on Monday said officers were called to the 1000 block of Fort William Road just after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday where they learned the male suspect asked another man for money and their phone.

That request was refused, leading to the suspect threatening and assaulting the victim.

It did not take responding officers long to track down the suspect, as they quickly found a man matching the description within 10 minutes of arriving at the scene.

The suspect has been charged with assault with intent to steal, uttering threats of death or bodily harm and non-compliance with a probation order.

The accused appeared in court on Monday morning and remains in custody.

Police said no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
