THUNDER BAY – Circulation of counterfeit U.S. currency in Thunder Bay has prompted police to urge people and businesses to take a close look at any American bills they may be accepting or looking to spend.

City police officers responded to reports of a person attempting to make a purchase at a business using a U.S. $20 bill that was determined to be a fake, according to a Thunder Bay Police Service media release issued on Wednesday.

Police have since seized other $20 bills as well as $50 bills that have been confirmed as counterfeit.

Anyone who believes they have come into contact with a suspicious bill is asked to call police at 684-1200.
