Pooch Smooch Gala to benefit local animal rescue services

Animal rescue groups are about to feel the love.

Animal rescue groups are about to feel the love.

Eight organizations have been chosen to be the recipients of the proceeds from the upcoming Pooch Smooch Gala, a fundraising Valentine’s Day dinner and dance being staged next Friday the Prince Arthur Hotel.

The event will include prizes and a 50/50 draw, with proceeds benefiting Northern Lights Dog Rescue, the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society, New Hope Dog Rescue, Northern Critters in Need, Want a Pet, Greenstone, Thunder Bay Animal Services and Kitty Kare.

"Running and animal rescue organization is very resource-intensive,” said Jody Kondrat, the city’s supervisor of animal services.

“Groups must house, feed and care for the animals they rescue until a suitable permanent home is found. Let's not forget - these dedicated individuals rescue these animals from very difficult circumstances, and give them a second chance. It's important work, and it depends on – and deserves – support from the community."

There are two ticket options for those wishing to attend. The $75 option includes an all-you-can-eat seafood and prime rib buffet, while the less expensive $60 ticket includes just the prime rib.

Ticket purchasers can also win a trip for two to anywhere Porter Airlines flies.

Tickets are available at the Prince Arthur Hotel and at East Coast Lobster in the Brentwood Mall on Arthur Street.
