THUNDER BAY—Thunder Bay Hydro crews were working Monday afternoon to restore power to hundreds of customers in the central area of the city.
Initially, about 700 customers in the Harbour Expressway, Fort William Road and Main Street areas came off the grid at around 2:30 p.m.
As of 3 p.m., service had been restored to about 450 customers, and the outage was isolated to an area east of Fort William Road from Central Avenue to Isabel Street including Intercity and the Thunder Centre.
A short time later, power was reported back on at several stores in the Thunder Centre and stores in the southern section of Intercity Shopping Centre, while stores at the north end of the mall were still off the grid at 4:00 p.m.
A Hydro spokesperson said some clients would likely be off-line until about 8:00 p.m.
She said the required repairs were "extensive" including the replacement of a utility pole.
There was no immediate word on whether the outage was connected to a collision that occurred around the same time on the Harbour Expressway at Carrick Street.
