THUNDER BAY -- Hydro One crews continued work Friday on restoring power to approximately 7500 customers affected by weather-related power outages that began Thursday.

The utility's website late Friday afternoon showed that close to 5,000 customers around Kenora could expect to remain off the grid until Saturday.

A total of almost 6,000 customers in the Kenora area lost power during the storm.

Hydro service also remained cut off on Friday morning for over 800 customers around Shebandowan and other areas west and north of Thunder Bay, and to about 800 customers in the Rainy River district.

Most customers in these areas were expected to be online again by Friday night.

Environment Canada reported that the Alberta Clipper dumped nearly 23 centimetres of snow on Kenora.

The storm resulted in numerous extended road closures including Highway 17 between Shabaqua and the Manitoba border.
