Power problems close Bora Laskin building

THUNDER BAY -- With just one week of classes remaining until exam time, one of the buildings at Lakehead University has been taken out of service.

On Sunday morning, a high-voltage distribution cable failed, leaving the Bora Laskin Building without power.

A temporary generator has been protecting the building and maintaining its security and fire systems.

Lakehead University vice-president Kathy Pozihun said crews have been working to prepare the area for the installation of a new cable, and they are expecting power by the end of the week.

The power outage has caused disruptions to some classes, and no one is occupying the building right now.

Instructors have moved certain classes to other buildings on campus.

Lakehead University classes officially end on Monday with exams beginning on Dec. 6.
