THUNDER BAY – A group of youngsters helped make Halloween a special day for the seniors who live next door.

On Tuesday, children from the Grace Remus Child Care Centre donned their Halloween costumes and paraded through Pioneer Ridge, stopping to trick-or-treat and sing for senior residents staying at the city-owned assisted living facility.

Ninety-nine-year-old Jack Lourie loved what he saw.

“The costumes were something what you might see in the movies. I think they’re very nice,” Lourie said.

There were Buzz Lightyear and Batman, kittens and pigs and even a pirate taking part in the pre-school parade.

It was awfully nice of the kids, said Lourie, the men of his floor dressed devils, the women as angels.

“We’re at an age group where we appreciate having children here and visiting with the kids,” Lourie said.

Ed Evans loved it too.

“I was a good idea,” said Evans, also 99.

The parade took quite a bit of preparation, said Grace Remus’ Elaine Vidas, but seeing how happy it made everyone made it worth every second.

“You just seen the children’s faces and the seniors’ faces when they get together and it’s just wonderful,” Vidas said.

“It’s just a great experience and you see how excited everybody is. The smiles say it all.”
