The first of several expected pre-trials for those charged following a deadly explosion at Terrace Bay Pulp will begin in May.

The first of several expected pre-trials for those charged following a deadly explosion at Terrace Bay Pulp will begin in May.

Ontario’s Ministry of Labour charged Terrace Bay Pulp and Venshore Mechanical with failing to ensure certain measures were in place, along with supervision and protection.

Supervisors Alain Zbrowski, Arthur Szczepaniak and Joseph Mykietyn all face two charges for failing to provide protection.

The charges were laid after an explosion at the mill killed a worker in October of 2011.

Lawyers for all five defendants were in provincial court Monday morning.

Because there are so many defendants, it’s expected the May 29 pre-trial will be the first of several.
