THUNDER BAY -- The preliminary hearing for the suspect in the city’s first homicide investigation of 2014 has begun.

Priscilla Thomas was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Jeffrey Munroe on Jan. 25.

The preliminary hearing started Tuesday at the Thunder Bay Courthouse and is expected to wrap up by Thursday.

The Crown plans to call nine witnesses and the hearing will determine if Thomas will be committed to trial on the murder charge.

In January, the police said the investigation into the incident at an apartment building on the corner of Kingsway Avenue and Walsh Street revealed a domestic altercation had occurred between Thomas and Munroe, who lived together.

The altercation escalated and Munroe was stabbed, said police.

Alcohol was also a factor.

Munroe was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Thomas was granted bail in April.

None of the allegations against the accused have been proven in court.
