THUNDER BAY – A preliminary hearing is underway for a man facing several serious charges, including second-degree murder and attempted murder from an incident at a south side home last year that left a 25-year-old man dead and two others injured.
Nazareth Alexander Nelson, 35, appeared in a Thunder Bay Courtroom on Monday along with defence attorneys Michael Hargadon and Dave Bruzzese.
Nelson was charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in the death of 25-year-old Bert Issac Wood.
The incident took place on the morning of Sept. 10, 2017 at a home on the 200 block of Syndicate Avenue North. When police arrived on the scene, Wood was found deceased and a 25-year-old male and a 23-year-old female were also found and were victims of an assault.
Nelson was arrested the same day at 8:45 p.m. at a south side residence. He was charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and breach of probation.
Police said all those involved were known to each other.
Crown prosecutor, Shari Frenette, called her first witness Monday morning. The preliminary hearing is scheduled to take five days.
Nelson remains in custody.
