Prohibited driver charged with dangerous driving after collision

THUNDER BAY — A resident of Thunder Bay is charged with multiple offences including driving while prohibited and dangerous driving in connection with a collision that happened Sunday.

Police were dispatched shortly after noon to the intersection of Golf Links Road and the Harbour Expressway.

They learned that a sedan had been travelling at high speed before going out of control and crashing into a traffic light post and an SUV that had been stopped in a turn lane.

When an officer approached the driver of the sedan, he declared he was driving without a licence.

Several beer cans were observed inside the vehicle, and the man failed a roadside sobriety test.

Charges against the 30-year-old include:

  • six counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • impaired driving
  • failure to comply with a probation order
  • failure to comply with a release order

The man appeared Monday in bail court and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
