THUNDER BAY -- Users fees are on the rise across the board in the city's proposed budget.
From burial plots to swimming lessons to golf memberships, the city is projected to grab an extra $1.18 million through user fee increases in 2016 between tax and rate supported fees.
The bulk of that money, around $972,000, would come through rate supported increases of 10 per cent for tipping fees at the landfill, which is also ending its free dump week, and a three per cent increase in water rates.
That rate hike also helps the city's sewer surcharge, which the city increased from 75 per cent to 90 per cent last year.
Docking fees at the marina are also set to go up by five per cent.
On the tax supported side, the bulk of the $209,000 would come from golf, $68,000, recreation and culture programs, which will see an average increase of two per cent for $67,500, and $26,000 from transit due to a five cent hike in fares.
All of the increases are in addition to the $9.85 million, around 5.77 per cent, proposed increase to the tax levy, around 3.83 per cent for existing taxpayers.
