Provincial NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says mayors from Northwestern Ontario are expressing concerns about Queen's Park ignoring Northerners.
Horwath met with representatives from the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association earlier this week and said the region is facing major unemployment and out-migration.
Finance Minister Dwight Duncan said there is no doubt, Northerners are experiencing challenges particularly when it comes to unemployment.
But, Duncan said the government is taking steps to improve the situation, including a billion dollar investment in the forest sector.
Horwath said she doubts mayors in the North will take much comfort in Duncan's remarks.
Horwath said the Liberal government is sitting idly by while the North loses good paying jobs.
