THUNDER BAY -- Safety should always be a prime consideration when lighting a campfire while in the bush and now Ontario residents have even more reason to exercise caution.

The Provincial government has announced it is increasing fines for those found to be responsible for starting a forest fire.

For an individual convicted of such an offence, the maximum fine is now $25,000

For a corporation, the amount has been increased to $500,000.

Approximately half of all forest fires are started by humans.
