THUNDER BAY -- Mirroring Northwestern Ontario’s other two ridings, the candidate in Thunder Bay-Rainy River who spent the most in last fall’s federal election came up short at the ballot box.

NDP incumbent John Rafferty spent $100,405, campaign finance records supplied by Elections Canada revealed.

That’s more than $30,000 more than each of his two main opponents, including Liberal Don Rusnak, who spent just $69,724 to win the seat.
Conservative Moe Comuzzi spent just $69,413 in her second attempt at winning the riding.

Expenses for the Green Party’s Christy Radbourne, who finished fourth in the four-candidate race, were not available as of Tuesday afternoon.

The Green Party's Bruce Hyer spent the most on his campaign in Thunder Bay-Superior North, but finished fourth. In Kenora incumbent Greg Rickford heavily outspent his opponents, but finished as the runner-up behind Liberal Bob Nault.
