Community representatives helped to kick off an annual fund raiser for Shelter House Thunder Bay Wednesday by reaching out to family, friends and colleagues to donate to the facility.
About 45 people took part in the sixth annual "Raise the Rent" event to kick off this year's Relay for Shelter. The participants were challenged to raise the equivalent of the average cost of one month's rent in Thunder Bay, almost six hundred dollars, or else they'd have to spend a night at the shelter.
Shelter House Executive Director Cal Rankin said they need to raise about $400,000 annually to continue to provide their services. The two events usually bring in about $150,000. The 16 th annual Relay for Shelter is taking place on June 5 at Chippewa Park. Interested participants are asked to contact the Shelter House.
