Taking an axe to a problem isn’t the best way to deal with it a local girl says.
Thirteen-year-old Caitlynn Radbourne organized more than a dozen people to rally at city hall Monday night to protest a recent council decision to chop down 11 tamarack trees near Mohawk Crescent. Radbourne said removing things because they’re seen as a nuisance doesn’t set a good example for the community.
“People will just think ‘well if it’s a nuisance let’s just get rid of it’ that’s not the way to think you gotta work around your problems,” she said after the group sang songs to honour the tamarack trees and held signs.
Radbourne wants to see council reconsider its decision and come up with a solution that helps everyone. If not, she doesn’t think snap decisions will stop with trees.
“I want them to send a good message across to our community,” she said.
