The eyes of the world are on Haiti as it marked the first anniversary of last year's devastating earthquake Wednesday.
Closer to home, the Canadian Red Cross is looking for help in assisting local residents who have suffered through a disaster of their own.
The 16th annual Northern Raffle kicked off Wednesday at Halfway Motors. The raffle raises money for the Red Cross in support of disaster service programs in Thunder Bay.
Red Cross spokesman Ken Widdifield said there are some wonderful prizes up for grabs in this year's raffle, including a brand new Nissan Xterra, gift certificates and cash.
Widdifield says it is important to raise money for people in need now more than ever .
Tickets are $10 and are available at The Canadian Red Cross or Halfway Motors until March 19.
The draw will take place on March 31.
