RED ROCK, Ont. -- The new owners of the Red Rock Mill have announced plans for a deep-water port on the property.
Riversedge Developments signed a 15-year memorandum of understanding with the Port of Algoma in Sault Ste Marie for the project.
This agreement will allow the mill to export biomass pellets produced at its Red Rock facility across Lake Superior.
The company’s CEO Justus Veldman says making biomass is just one step.
“By having a port, by having a rail, having natural gas and having the power to build the plant, this makes (the project) shovel ready and will entice investors and pellet plants to come,” explained Veldman in an interview with TBT News.
Riversedge Developments also purchased the Red Rock Inn with plans to re-open it this summer.
Red Rock Mayor Gary Nelson says it is all bringing jobs back to the community, something the community is in great need of.
