The number of organ donors in Ontario has reached a record high.

That’s according to a report by the Gift of Life Network. But here in the Thunder Bay the numbers show little movement.

When someone becomes an organ donor at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, they can choose to have a plaque laid in the hospitals Garden of Life.

Rhonda Crocker Ellacott is the executive vice-president of patient services. She says this year they have had three organ donations, which compares to four made last year.

Crocker Ellacott says the number fluctuates dramatically every year depending upon appropriate admissions. But she says the hospital has very high numbers when it comes to donor registration rates.

She says organ donations are vitally important as one person can save up to eight lives.
