University knowledge will invade the community this week.

Lakehead University is kicking off their 11th annual Research and Innovation week Saturday at the Intercity Shopping Centre.

"The purpose of this week is to expose the community to some of the great research, which is happening at Lakehead University through displays, talks and interactive events," said Andrew Dean, Lakehead's vice-president of research and Innovation.

There are a number of events happening throughout the week including:

The Future of The Book: Three members of the English department and two former students host a round-table discussion on the changing nature of books amid evolving digital technology on Sunday March 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brodie Street Library’s Reading Room.
Social Justice Research Day: A round-table discussions focuses on the Truth and Reconciliation Report from 2 to 4 p.m.  and Citizenship and Immigration from 7 to 9 p.m., both on Monday at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery.
Dino Eggs: University of Toronto’s Robert Reisz, professor of Palaeontology, will discuss his research on dinosaur eggs and embryos on Tuesday at the University in room RB 1042 at 7:30 p.m.

But that’s only a fraction of the events taking place throughout the week. For more information visit the Research Week website online here lakeheadu.ca/ri

The event wraps up Thursday with a reception and awards ceremony.

"I think it's important because that's what University's do they create new knowledge and I think it's really important for us to see as a community how that's being done," Dean said.

"It highlights the value of the University but I think it also highlights to the students what it means to be someone who gets a researcher career and what University is all about."

Research and Innovation week runs from March 5 to March 10.
