THUNDER BAY – Police are warning people to be on the lookout after three men nearly conned an elderly woman by pretending to do home repair work.
In a media release the Thunder Bay Police Service said the three suspects entered a West Arthur Street home on Monday and told the homeowner the building needed many repairs, with two of them going outside to pretend to do the work.
They insisted she write a cheque for the work before they would leave and she complied.
One of the men attempted to cash the cheque at a bank but staff thought it was suspicious and refused.
Police advise people to not allow strangers in their home and be cautious of con artists posing as sales people, contractors or other occupations that would enable them to enter a home.
Descriptions of the suspects are not available.
