THUNDER BAY – A respiratory outbreak has been declared at the Southbridge Roseview long-term care home's Primrose Unit.
The outbreak is not COVID-related, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit advised in a release on Tuesday. A representative for the health unit said the cause of the outbreak had been identified as Coronavirus OC43, a cause of the common cold.
All admissions, transfers, discharges and social activities have been cancelled on that unit until further notice, the agency said.
Visitors are restricted to family members and caregivers only. Those with questions are directed to call the facility for additional information.
In its advisory, the health unit urged residents to "refrain from visiting high risk settings, including hospitals and long-term care facilities, when feeling unwell to avoid spreading infections to the most vulnerable."
It also urged the public to keep up to date on vaccinations, wash hands often, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay at home when sick to reduce the risk of spreading infection.
