The Regional Food Distribution Association will have a new roof soon.

The RFDA is set to receive $150,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to replace the existing roof on their Syndicate Avenue headquarters.

RFDA Executive Director Volker Kromm said the current roof is poorly insulated and leaks when it rains.

He added that a new, more environmentally friendly roof is necessary to help preserve the food bank supplies and make the organization more sustainable.

Kromm believes the new roof, which he expects to be completed before the snow falls, will lower utility costs by 40-to-60 per cent.

The Syndicate Avenue building was acquired by the RFDA last year.

More than one-and-a half million dollars has now been spent on purchasing and renovating the building.
