Robbery near casino

A 90-year-old-woman remains in critical condition following a robbery near the Thunder Bay Charity Casino. Thunder Bay Police Service officers say the robbery took place on Park Avenue around 6:50 p.m. Friday.

A 90-year-old-woman remains in critical condition following a robbery near the Thunder Bay Charity Casino.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers say the robbery took place on Park Avenue around 6:50 p.m. Friday. The victim had parked her car in the parking lot across from the casino. She started to exit her car when a man believed to be around his 20s grabbed her black purse. A struggle ensued and the victim fell to the ground.

The suspect fled on foot with the purse.

Police say the victim didn’t think her injuries were too serious at first but when police arrived, they determined that the woman needed medical attention and was treated for head and internal injuries.

The victim remains in critical condition at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Police described the suspect as Aboriginal about five-foot-eight with a slim build wearing a white t-shirt with a large logo or artwork on the back, a dark baseball cap, dark pants and white running shoes.

Police added that they want to talk a man wearing a long sleeve top with khaki shorts who was seen walking on Park Avenue with two children around the time of the robbery.
The man and anyone else with information about this incident are asked to contact police at 684-1237.
