THUNDER BAY – The integrity commissioner for the City of Thunder Bay has found Coun. Aldo Ruberto breached the city's code of conduct in relation to comments he made on social media.

The report from the firm Principles Integrity, which provides integrity commissioner services to the city, will be released in full on Wednesday.

A draft city council agenda confirms the commissioner concluded that Ruberto breached the code of conduct, and recommends suspending the pay he receives as a city councillor for a period of five days.

Reached Tuesday, Ruberto said he strongly disagrees with that conclusion, and “absolutely” hopes his council colleagues will decide on a different course of action.

“The commissioner is there to give advice and guidance,” he said. “I certainly don’t agree with him.”

He confirmed the complaint related to his conduct on social media, where he often engages in public debate.

The long-time at-large councillor said he wants to offer his side of the story publicly after the report is published, but is hesitant to do so before receiving guidance on what he can and can’t say.
