THUNDER BAY - A Thunder Bay MP has been named to a parliamentary caucus that seeks to keep outdoor sporting activities a part of the Canadian fabric.

Don Rusnak, MP for Thunder Bay-Rainy River, was named the co-vice chair of the Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus. The all-all party caucus advocates for the preservation and promotion of traditional Canadian outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, and trapping.

Rusnak is joining Larry Miller, MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound as co-vice chair and Gudie Hutchings, MP for Long Range Mountains, and Bob Zimmer, MP for Prince George-Peace River who are serving as co-chairs.

“This caucus serves as an excellent way to support those who wish to participate in activities such as hunting and fishing, and also ensuring that these activities are conducted in a way that is safe and sustainable,” Rusnak said in a media release. “I look forward to working with the caucus this year to promote the activities that are so important to myself and many residents in Thunder Bay—Rainy River.”

The outdoor caucus will work with the government of Canada to ensure the law reflects that hunting, fishing, trapping, and shooting sports are seen as acceptable and environmentally sustainable activities and are conducted in a safe manner with a strong conservation ethic.

“Hunting, fishing, and trapping are activities that are important to myself, my constituents in the Long Range Mountains, and many Canadians nationwide,” said Hutchings. “They are both a part of our culture, and our economy. The All Party Outdoor Caucus aims to preserve and promote these traditional Canadian outdoor activities in a way that is environmentally sustainable.”
