The Spider failed at the Dryden Fall Fair on Saturday night.

DRYDEN, Ont - Ontario’s Technical Standards & Safety Authority says a midway ride that experienced a mechanical failure in Dryden on the weekend had been inspected by the TSSA less than three weeks earlier.

According to local media reports, the oscillating arm supporting two pods on The Spider failed at the Dryden Fall Fair on Saturday night, causing the cars to drop to the ground. People were on the ride at the time but no one was hurt.

A representative of the TSSA said Tuesday he understands that "a bar broke" and a car landed on the ground.  He wasn't sure how many individuals were on the ride at the time.

Contacted by Tbnewswatch for comment, a spokesperson for the company that owns the ride, Canuck Amusements, said he doesn’t want the incident to be blown out of proportion.

Speaking by phone from the company’s Winnipeg office, the individual would not give his name but told Tbnewswatch.com that “there were no injuries, the ride broke down, the TSSA has been checking out that piece of equipment back in Winnipeg. I’m not going to say anything more than that because it’ll get blown out of proportion anyway.”

Steve Robinson of the TSSA said the ride remains out of operation pending inspection.  Robinson said the situation that led to the incident will be reviewed prior to determining next steps.
