SIOUX LOOKOUT -- Provincial police joined the Ministry of Transportation as they conducted a three-day safety blitz in the Sioux Lookout and Pickle Lake areas between Feb. 25 and 27.

During the three-day blitz, the MTO conducted 15 commercial motor vehicle inspections. A total of 14 charges were laid and one plate was removed for unauthorized use. These charges are related to improper completion of pre-trip inspections, driver hours of work infractions, improper driver qualifications, improper equipment and vehicle registration, and unsecured loads.

Sioux Lookout OPP Constable M. Price accompanied MTO Transportation Enforcement Officer McKeon on Feb. 27, in a joint safety initiative within the Municipality of Sioux Lookout. Inspections conducted during this joint initiative resulted in a 75 per cent out of service rate and five charges. Constable Price also gained valuable experience conducting CMV inspections that will be continued by officers.

If you observe a commercial motor vehicle with insecure loads or unsafe commercial motor vehicles on our roadways, you can report them to the OPP or MTO Enforcement Division so that a vehicle inspection can be completed.

Approximately four million CMV inspections are conducted every year throughout North America to ensure the large trucks and buses driving on our roadways are operating safely. These Inspections reduce victimization on our roadways by ensuring CMVs are road worthy and operators are qualified and following legislated operation protocols.

Sioux Lookout OPP would like to thank the MTO for their co-operation in making CMV safety a priority.
