The local health unit is asking boaters to “get it on" this summer, and wear personal floatation devices before stepping onto a boat.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit’s SAVE committee launched its annual campaign on Father's Day, with billboards, posters, placemats and pop-up ads.
The campaign targets men aged 35- to 65-years-old who are more frequently on the water and less likely to wear a life jackets.
Gord Ellis is the face of the local campaign, and says it's his responsibility to his family to be as safe as possible when on the water.
According to the Red Cross, up to 200 Canadians will drown this year as a result of boating related incidents.
Ellis says PFDs are easy to wear, and their life saving potential makes them a cheap investment.
Last year, there were 22 reported marine vessel fatalities in Ontario. Eight have been reported as of June 2 this year.
