THUNDER BAY -- The crowdfunding campaign to rescue the Finalandia Association from its financial troubles has reached 15 per cent of its goal after three days.

For more than 100 years the Finnish Labour Temple has served as a cultural hub in this city, but it was revealed last weekend by the Finlandia Association’s treasurer that the organization was in dire straits.

“We’re facing substantial debt and challenges that came as a result of renovations that were necessary. The new roof, heating system and wheelchair accessibility but we’re struggling,” she told tbnewswatch.com Sunday.

The revelation led to an Indiegogo crowdfunding fundraising campaign that has surpassed 15 per cent of its $15,000 goal. By Thursday morning the Save the Finlandia fundraising drive had collected more than $2,460.

As a fixed fundraising campaign, the money pledged to the campaign will only be collected if the $15,000 goal is reached.

The campaign was created by Facebook user Crys DiGiuseppe on March 16 and is set to conclude on April 20. Facebook users Steve Jobbitt and Dane Ostrom have since joined the Save the Finlandia crowdfunding campaign team.

The campaign team has also added a perk, giving away $5 Hoito gift cards to anyone who contributes $25.
