THUNDER BAY -- Enrollment at Thunder Bay schools is down.

Lakehead Public Schools superintendent of business David Wright said the public board has around 1,200 less students than it did in 2011.

"We were hoping for more students this year but we're really close to where we projected," he said.

"The enrollment is what it is. That is the story of Northwestern Ontario."

Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board director Pino Tassone said they've seen a drop in enrollment by about 450 students since 2011.

"This is the first year in about eight years that we were able to sustain numbers from the previous year," he said.
