THUNDER BAY – A rural school bus driver involved in a Monday morning crash that injured at least one student has been charged.
Officials with the Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP confirmed Tuesday that a 56-year-old woman was charged with careless driving following the school bus crash on Highway 595 in Gillies.
The single-vehicle crash took p-lace near Parker Road and about 17 school children were onboard at the time.
One student was sent to the hospital with minor injuries.
The crash also resulted in a power outage, which led to the closure of Whitefish Public School for the day.
Police say they could not confirm what caused the distraction that led to the bus going off the road and striking a hydro pole.
