School events, city programs cancelled due to Thursday's snow

Thursday's snow has caused Lakehead Public Schools to cancel parent-teacher interviews that were scheduled during the evening.

Thursday's snow has caused Lakehead Public Schools to cancel parent-teacher interviews that were scheduled during the evening. 

The snow and deteriorating road conditions have also caused all high school junior varsity games scheduled for Thursday evening to be cancelled. 

Varisty playoff games have been postponed until Friday. 

The City of Thunder Bay also announced that recreation and culture and municipal child care programs will be cancelled for the evening. Canceled programs include:

Grace Remus Child Care Centre Evening Program running from 6 pm – 2 am. Parents are currently being contacted and staff will be in attendance if all parents cannot be contacted.

Skating Programs: Semi-Private Lessons, Current River Arena 5 to  6 p.m.; Stroke Improvement Grandview Arena from 4:40 to 5:30 p.m.

Participants are being contacted and Arena Staff have been asked to post signage.

Neighbourhood Recreation Programs canceled include: 

  • St. Margarets School                      3:20 – 6 pm
  • C.D. Howe School                            3:20 – 6 pm
  • Edgewater Park School                  3:20 – 6 pm


Staff will be in attendance at these school programs at 3:20 p.m. in case any kids do show up and will not leave until the children are safely picked up by a parent or guardian. 

Parents are encouraged to pick children up early if at all possible.
