Police finished the underwater portion of their search for a missing teen, but still have not been able to locate the 15-year-old boy.
The OPP’s underwater search and recovery unit began Day 3 of their search on the Kaministiquia River near the James Street swing bridge Thursday morning. Police were looking for evidence into the disappearance of Jordan Wabasse, a teen who has been missing since Monday, Feb. 7.
While investigators did not find the teen, they did recover a baseball cap that matched the description given of one worn by Jordan at the time of his disappearance. The ball cap was first spotted on Sunday, but officers were unable to recover the hat until Tuesday.
The hat is now being examined by members of the Center of Forensic Science.
The search for Wabasse has been a co-operative effort from the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, the Anishinabek Police Service, OPP, Thunder Bay Police Service and RCMP.
On Wednesday, Thunder Bay Police Service spokesman Chris Adams said the underwater search team faced a number of challenges as they continued the search. The water’s frigid temperature and visibility were among the two greatest challenges divers were forced to deal with.
The Thunder Bay Police Service and OPP are now discussing their next steps in the search for Jordan. Police say details of those next steps will be revealed to the public sometime Friday.
