Second-degree murder preliminary hearing begins

A preliminary hearing for a 2010 murder case began Monday in a Thunder Bay courtroom. The accused, 19 year-old Patrick Kanate, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 25-year-old Keegan Williams.

The accused, 19 year-old Patrick Kanate, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 25-year-old Keegan Williams.

The incident took place shortly before 3 a.m. on Sept 14, 2010.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were called to a disturbance on the 300 block of South High Street, where they found the victim injured.

Williams was taken to hospital, where he later died from a stab wound.

The preliminary hearing for Kanate is expected to last five days.

He remains in custody.
