THUNDER BAY — An officer with the Thunder Bay Police Service faces impaired driving charges after colliding with a tree over the weekend.

The incident comes after another city police officer was charged with impaired driving just last month.

Police were dispatched to the area of Barrie Drive and Highway 588, in Oliver Paipoonge, around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday following reports of a collision.

Arriving officers found a pickup truck had entered the ditch and collided with a tree.

According to a release issued by the police force on Wednesday, officers observed signs of impairment when they approached the driver, and a breath sample taken at police headquarters confirmed a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.

The Thunder Bay Police Service did not name the officer, who was off duty at the time, stating that is because charges had not yet been sworn before the courts.

TBnewswatch has learned the officer is Pamela Cache.

Paramedics with Superior North EMS also responded to the collision.

The officer faces charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation (over 80).

The officer “is not on active duty at this time,” the police service stated Wednesday.
