City police are looking for witnesses to what they call a serious hit and run crash.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say the collision took place at about 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, Jan 12, at the intersection of Memorial Avenue and the Harbour Expressway.

Police say a grey Hyundai Elantra was stopped for a red light and facing south on Memorial Avenue when it was struck from behind by a black Dodge pickup truck. The truck was said to be travelling at a “substantial speed” at the time of the crash.

Police say the car was propelled forward as a result of the crash and came to a rest at the Harbour Expressway entrance ramp.

The driver for the black pickup truck fled the scene with the vehicle, which police officers found a short time afterwards at a nearby home.

Police are now asking anyone with information about this, crash, or the driver involved, to contact the Thunder Bay Police Service’s traffic unit.

There was a passenger in the back seat of the car at at the time of the crash, however no serious injuries have been reported as a result of the collision.
