Public and Catholic School students from Grades 9 through 12 came together Friday to check out potential careers in medical research.

Doctor Alison Symington from the Ontario Genomics Institute said the day involves educating students on the wide range of career opportunities that are available in the medical field.

Interactive activities and group discussions were planned, and students had the opportunity to speak with professionals in the industry.

Symington added that Thunder Bay is an excellent place to hold such an event, as the medical community is thriving.

She said she hopes the students will gain a new outlook after participating in the seminars.

The course had more than 100 students participating.

Symington said similar seminars are being held across the province.
